Translate your academic expertise into actions that can shape the future of global development and influence solutions to meet global challenges.
The Science for Development Fellowships at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) offer a unique, two-year experiential professional development opportunity for American scientists and engineers to help shape the future of global development. By working within USAID, fellows will apply their expertise and research skills to inform the U.S. government’s international development activities, helping to drive initiatives that save lives, reduce poverty, strengthen democratic governance, and enable communities to progress beyond assistance.
These fellowships are designed to bridge the gap between cutting-edge scientific research, technological innovation, and real-world development challenges. Through this program, USAID aims to harness the power of STEMM across a huge array of fields, including medicine and social sciences, to tackle some of the most pressing global issues, ensuring the agency’s development strategies are informed by the latest advancements.
Starting October 2025, fellows will be embedded within USAID’s Washington, D.C. offices, collaborating with teams on high-impact projects and initiatives and providing the opportunity to engage with key stakeholders and policymakers. Depending on the nature of the assignments, there may be opportunities for fieldwork in various locations worldwide.
Highly motivated doctoral-level STEMM graduates, and those with a master’s degree in engineering, who have a passion for applying their knowledge to global challenges, are eligible. Successful prospects should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a demonstrated commitment to humanitarian efforts and international development.
Transform your journey, advance your career, and gain hands-on management experience while contributing to making a lasting difference in the world.
