2025Communication and Public Engagement Fellowships

Sponsored by Merrimack College

One of the fastest-growing educational institutions in the country, Merrimack College is a selective, top-tier college in a beautiful, residential setting — just minutes from Boston, Massachusetts. Driven by our Augustinian Catholic mission, Merrimack is where academic excellence meets a community filled with spirit and energy. Together, we believe in pushing boundaries, embracing innovation and making a difference within our communities. Our academic experience bridges the gap between theory and the real-world for meaningful learning that prepares our students for personal and professional success. Merrimack is where students and faculty come together creating a unique environment where ideas and collaborative endeavors are encouraged, meaningful connections are made and personal growth is a priority.

As a Graduate Fellow in our Communication and Public Engagement programs, you’ll gain hands-on experience and expand your professional network through personalized roles that align with your career aspirations—all while completing your M.A. in Communication, Master of Public Administration, or M.Ed. in Community Engagement and saving 50-100% on tuition! Whether you are leading public engagement and community outreach initiatives or designing and implementing strategic communications for Merrimack College or partner organizations, you’ll be developing valuable, real-world skills that make a lasting impact.

If you’re selected for a MPA or Communications Graduate Fellowship, you will:

  • Complete a nine-month field-based experience at Merrimack College or a partner organization.
  • Communication Fellows: Choose between a Presidential (100% tuition) or Provost (50%) fellowship.*
  • Serve 25 hours a week (Presidential fellowships) or 15 hours (Provost fellowships) at your placement site while taking graduate courses in the summer and on afternoons and evenings throughout the academic year.
  • Earn your master’s in one year with significantly discounted tuition.

*Our MPA offers Provost Fellowship positions only.

If you are applying for a Community Engagement Fellowship, you will choose between two types of fellowships to best fit your schedule:

  • One-year fellow: You will complete a nine-month field-based experience in a partner school, college, or community-based organization, serving 25 hours a week at your placement site, while taking graduate courses in the summer and on afternoons and evenings throughout the academic year.
  • Two-year fellow: You will complete a 21-month field-based experience in a partner school, college, or community-based organization, serving 10 hours a week at your placement site, while taking graduate courses in the summer and on afternoons and evenings throughout the academic year
  • Community Engagement fellowships are available in three modalities: in-person, hybrid, and remote.
  • All Community Engagement fellowships are Presidential (full-tuition).
