Sponsored By Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics
Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE) is now accepting applications for our 2025 programs! We invite students and early career professionals of all backgrounds in the fields of business, clergy/religious leadership, design & technology, journalism, law, and medicine to apply for this transformative fellowship. FASPE is a fully-funded program in professional ethics and ethical leadership that begins with two weeks of intense study in Germany and Poland.
FASPE’s distinctive approach is to examine the roles and behavior of individual professionals in Germany and elsewhere between 1933 and 1945 as an initial framework for approaching ethical responsibility in the professions today. By examining the behavior and motivations of the professionals who — by choice and action — enabled and enacted Nazi policies, we establish the importance and urgency of professionalism and ethical leadership today.
Daily seminars take place at sites of historic importance, taking advantage of the power of place. Seminars are led by specialized faculty within the field. Through additional interdisciplinary sessions, Fellows also have the benefit of building networks across professions and learning how other professions approach ethical responsibility.
Program Dates
Business, Law, Design & Technology: May 23 to June 6, 2025
Medical, Journalism, Clergy & Religious Leaders: June 20 to July 4, 2025
Eligibility
Each FASPE program has its own eligibility requirements:
FASPE seeks Fellows at a formative stage of their professional lives, who are open-minded and self-reflective, demonstrate leadership capabilities, and possess the potential of having influence in their fields. FASPE selects its Fellows on the basis of their academic background, personal and professional experiences, capacity for leadership, and ability to contribute to the Fellowship program and the alumni community. FASPE values and seeks to create inclusive environments, and welcomes applicants of all religious, political, and socioeconomic backgrounds as well as gender identities. FASPE seeks Fellows who are interested in engaging in discussions with their co-Fellows and faculty, and who have the intellectual and emotional maturity to discuss difficult and controversial issues responsibly and respectfully in small group settings. All applications are welcome and reviewed.
Program Benefits
- A fully-funded program, including lodging, travel, and food
- FASPE offers the unique opportunity to travel and converse with professionals from other fields and discuss how they may approach ethical dilemmas impacting their professions.
- The FASPE Fellowship experience extends well beyond the two weeks in Europe. Fellows join a lifetime network, now comprised of over 900 alumni. FASPE curates ongoing opportunities to connect with other alumni, including at an annual reunion, regional events, symposia and lectures both in-person and online, and through other social networking opportunities.
“The FASPE program provided structure and starting points to have conversations about how we can analyze ourselves and our professions as we seek to act ethically. One of my favorite aspects of the program was how the formal curriculum sparked many informal conversations during meals, bus trips, and walks around the cities. I came away from FASPE with new ethical frameworks and questions, which I will continue to ponder throughout my career. I also gained many wonderful colleagues within and outside of my discipline.”
– Anjola Ondadipe, 2024 Medical Fellow
