The application for the 2025-26 Princeton in Asia fellowships is now open!

Princeton in Asia (PiA) fosters mutual appreciation and cross-cultural understanding between the United States and Asia through immersive work fellowships in host organizations and communities.

In the 2025-26 fellowship cycle, we expect to offer 60 positions in the following countries and regions, subject to change due to local and regional circumstances, including: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong S.A.R., Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macao S.A.R., Mongolia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

PiA fellowships span a variety of focus areas:

  • Arts and Culture
  • Economic Development
  • Education
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Peace, Justice, and Access to Information
  • Public Health
  • Sports
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)

Fellowships typically begin in August and last for one or two years. We encourage applicants of all disciplines and backgrounds to apply!

Eligibility

Degree requirements:

  • All PiA Fellows must have a bachelor’s degree before their fellowship begins.
  • Graduates of any college or university are eligible to apply for a PiA fellowship.
  • We do accept candidates with master’s degrees, but not those with terminal degrees (Ph.D, M.D., J.D.).
  • Although most applicants are college seniors or recent college graduates, there is no age limit for applying to PiA.

Citizenship:

  • Citizens of any country may apply to PiA.
  • All candidates must present a compelling rationale for how they will contribute to PiA’s mission of the United States-Asia exchange.
  • Host countries’ visa restrictions may limit our ability to place citizens of certain nationalities.

Other eligibility information:

  • All positions require professional proficiency in English.
  • English teaching positions require native or near-native English speaking ability.
  • Asian language skills are welcome but not required for most positions.

Program Benefits

As recipients of a PiA fellowship, our Fellows receive:

  • An immersive, paid work opportunity at a host organization in Asia.
  • A living stipend paid by the host organization. The stipend is intended to foster an immersive experience in the host community and is designed to cover the cost of housing, groceries, telecommunications, and local transportation.
  • Health and safety resources.
  • A pre-departure orientation program. Teaching Fellows will also receive access to a 120-hour Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) online certification course.
  • Reimbursement for visa expenses in the US.
  • Access to PiA’s Alumni network.

How to Apply

The PiA application consists of the following:

  • One completed essay
  • Two short responses
  • One 60-second video
  • One resume
  • One unofficial college or university transcript
  • One anonymous demographic survey
  • One recommendation form completed by your chosen recommender.

All application materials are due by 11:59 PM EDT on November 1st, 2024.
