Sponsored by the Curry School of Education and Human Development, University of Virginia
The Curry School of Education and Human Development is proud to offer the Dean’s Fellowship Program, a new program funded by UVA’s Strategic Investment Fund that provides increased financial support for top Ph.D. applicants.
Winners of the Fellowship will receive:
- Full coverage of four years of tuition and fees
- Health insurance
- $32,000 for each year of study
- In addition, extra travel funding for students presenting at national conferences may be available through the Dean’s Travel Fellowship Program
All full-time, on-Grounds Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) applicants in the Curry School of Education and Human Development are eligible and automatically considered for the fellowship. A select number of fellowships are distributed each year, depending on the applicant pool and other variables.
How to Apply
Full-time doctoral applicants are automatically considered for the Dean’s Fellowship upon submission – there is no separate application. The deadline for fall 2020 admission is either December 1st or December 15th, 2019, depending on the program. Be sure to check your program’s individual page for all deadlines and admission requirements.
All Ph.D. applications are reviewed by a selection committee and judged on the overall quality of the full application, including GRE scores, potential contributions to the field of study and other relevant factors. Typically, outstanding applicants are nominated for the Dean’s Fellowship by their selection committee and submitted to the Dean for final selection.
Recipients of the Dean’s Fellowship will be notified via phone or email at the time they receive their financial aid package. All Ph.D. applicants will receive notification of their financial aid packages within a few days of their acceptance into the Ph.D. program.
More information about the Dean’s Fellowship
The Curry School of Education and Human Development has launched a program to offer increased funding packages to attract top doctoral applicants. A part of the University of Virginia’s Strategic Investment Fund, the $2.5 million in additional funds over three years includes just over $2 million in supplemental fellowships for leading Ph.D. students enrolling in their program of study beginning in the fall of 2018.
“Pairing outstanding students and world-class faculty scholars with the top-ranked graduate programs at the Curry School results in the development of new knowledge that ultimately makes our society better,” said Bob Pianta, dean of the Curry School. “These additional funds allow us to enhance our efforts to attract the best doctoral students in the fields of education and human development and expand this impact.”
Students offered this top-level funding are considered Dean’s Fellows and will receive coverage for full tuition and fees, health insurance, as well as $32,000 for each year of study. In addition to these supplemental fellowships, the additional funding from the Strategic Investment Fund will increase support for students to travel to national conferences where they will present their research and will provide additional supports within Curry to help students apply for external fellowships and grants.
All full-time doctoral applicants are automatically considered for the Dean’s Fellowship upon submission and review of their applications for admission (deadlines for Fall 2020 admission are December 1 or 15, 2019). Doctoral students interested in presenting at national conferences can apply for funding through the Dean’s Travel Fellowship Program.
Deadline: December 1 or 15, 2019, depending on the program
