Job description
Merrimack College’s School of Health Sciences is currently seeking candidates for a number of Health Sciences Graduate Fellowship positions in the areas of:
- Athletics Administration
- Health Promotion and Public Health
- Strength and Conditioning
This is a 9 month accelerated academic and experiential program with a 50% reduction in graduate tuition awarded to successful candidates. You will work part-time at a fellowship placement site while studying full-time at Merrimack to earn your Master of Science degree in one of the following areas:
- Community Health Education
- Exercise and Sport Science
- Health and Wellness Management

Athletics Administration
Athletics Graduate Fellows will assist in the day-to-day responsibilities of the Merrimack College Athletic Department. The candidate will perform a number of administrative duties depending on which area, including, but not limited to assisting with event management, team travel, game operations, facility management, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. The candidate will emerge from the fellowship with the necessary background and experience to be qualified to become a full-time administrator in collegiate athletics.
Sample of Position responsibilities:
- Assist with practice and game scheduling
- Help coordinate travel arrangements for varsity, club and intramural teams
- Assist in training student worker staff
- Participate in weekly Athletic Department and Building Staff meeting
- Act as game manager for various athletic events
- Help ensure all athletic buildings, fields and arenas are well maintained
- Conduct inventory checks of all game operations equipment
- Be a liaison for visiting teams, officials and fans coming to campus
- Work directly with other departments such as Marketing and Ticketing, Athletic Communications, External Affairs, Compliance, Sports Medicine, among others
Health Promotion and Public Health
Health Promotion and Public Health Graduate Fellows will serve at sites such as:
- Merrimack College Student Wellness
- North Andover and Andover Public Health Departments
- Vinfen, Employee Wellness
- MIT Community Wellness Office
- Merrimack College Health Science Research Positions
- Andover Community Center
- Lawrence General Hospital Population Health
- Spaulding Rehabilitation Adaptive Sports Program
- Nutrition in Motion
- And more…
Example of Position Responsibilities:
- Support the wellness program office
- Implement new and existing wellness programming (e.g., stress relief, walkability programming, wellness fairs, financial capability, and more)
- Create needs assessments
- Complete program evaluations
- Design and execute community-based projects
Strength and Conditioning
In order to be considered for a Strength and Conditioning fellowship you must apply to our Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science program. The Master’s program offers a concentration in Strength and Conditioning that is an Education Recognition Program with an approved and standardized curricula by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Strength and Conditioning Graduate Fellows will serve at sites such as:
- Merrimack College
- Boston College
- Tufts University
- UMass Lowell
- Athletic Evolution
- Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning
- Harvard University
- Phillips Exeter Academy
- Southern New Hampshire University
- College of the Holy Cross
- Northeastern University
- Fitchburg State University
- And more…
Position Responsibilities will include (and are not limited to):
- Program design, implementation, and supervision for assigned teams
- Participation in personal and staff development initiatives
- Coordination and collaboration with Athletic Training.
Specific Requirements and Qualifications include:
- Successful acceptance into the Exercise and Sport Science Master’s program at Merrimack College
- CPR & First Aid certification
- CSCS credentialed or eligible and plan to be credentialed prior to enrollment
- Previous experience in a strength and conditioning coaching environment (e.g., collegiate weightroom, private fitness center) is preferred
