The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offer five public health fellowship and associate opportunities for recent graduates with a background in molecular biology, bioinformatics, public health, epidemiology, genetics, genomics, biostatistics, computer science, biology, or a related field. These programs include:

Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Fellowship

COVID-19 Laboratory Associate Program

Infectious Diseases Laboratory Fellowship

Infectious Diseases Bioinformatics Fellowship

Newborn Screening Bioinformatics and Data Analytics Fellowship

Application Requirements

  • A narrative statement
  • Current resume/CV
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Transcripts from all degree granting institutions
  • Program specific supplemental question
  • US citizenship or permanent residency

Admissions Process and Applications

Fellowship Programs

  • Applications must be submitted online by February 28, 2021
  • Application review will begin after the deadline
  • Applicants will be notified of their status by April 2021; finalists will be invited to a virtual interview
  • Fellows will begin their assignments in Summer 2021 (flexible start date).

Associate Programs

  • Associate applications are reviewed on a rolling basis
  • Positions are offered and filled as host laboratory opportunities are available
  • Associates begin appointments as soon as possible
