Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact through arts education? Broadway for Arts Education (BAE) invites you to join us at the Shanti Bhavan Music Fellowship in India. BAE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking down systemic barriers for underserved youth, partners with the Broadway community, teaching artists, and schools worldwide to deliver a culturally-responsive approach to arts education.

The Shanti Bhavan Music Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to empower children from India’s lowest socioeconomic class, helping them break the cycle of generational poverty through education, leadership, and compassion.

As a Music Fellow with Broadway for Arts Education, you will travel to the Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project in rural India. This immersive experience will allow you to engage directly with a community dedicated to transformative education. You’ll provide comprehensive music education to over 200 children aged 4-18, fostering their musical talents and supporting personal growth.

Your role will include:

  • Teaching general music classes to 2nd-5th Grade
  • Introducing music activities to Pre-K-1st Grade
  • Leading high school and middle school choirs
  • Giving lessons on your primary instrument(s)
  • Supervising and assisting virtual music lessons in piano, guitar, and voice
  • Managing student leaders in the music program
  • Maintaining instruments, the music library, and technology
  • Weekly check-ins with the Director of the Music Program

Eligibility

We seek individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education (preferred) who have experience in both classroom and private teaching. Ideal candidates possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a strong passion for youth education and community engagement, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse team. Adaptability, positivity, flexibility, and respect for the rural South-Indian community and culture are essential.
