The University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania offers a fully funded PhD in Physics. In the first year, most students enroll in formal courses which cover the basics of Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Statistical Mechanics, and Mathematical Methods. In addition, there is a Graduate Seminar that provides an introduction to ongoing research opportunities in the department. After this initial foundation, students choose an advisor and work closely with them as they research and complete their thesis. Students are supported through fellowships and teaching assistantships throughout their studies.
