USA to Australia Fellowship Program

The Association awards Fellowships each year at the graduate (Masters, PhD or post-doctoral) level of up to $40,000 USD for U.S. scholars undertaking advanced research or study in Australia. Fellowships are available for Americans who will benefit from doing research or study in the fields of life sciences, medicine, engineering or mining. There is particular interest in the fields of oceanography/marine sciences and stem cell research. Applicants must make their own arrangements for university affiliation and have a confirmed placement by the time the Fellowship is awarded. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents doing research or study at the graduate level. Applicants may already be in Australia.

Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships

The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are the Australian Government’s competitive, merit-based scholarships and fellowships providing opportunities for Australians to undertake study, research or professional development overseas and for overseas citizens to do the same in Australia. For international applications, the program provides funding for an Australian Masters or PhD, short-term dissertation or post-doctoral research, or 1-4 months of professional development. There is also a Vocational Award to pursue an Australian Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree. All recipients will receive a travel allowance, an establishment allowance, a monthly stipend, tuition remission (if applicable) and health and travel insurance.

Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship in Australia

Fulbright awards for American doctoral students to conduct research and/or study in Australia or to support enrollment in an Australian postgraduate program such as a Masters. Provides living, travel and establishment allowances for a program of 8-10 months duration. Funding is stipend-based does not cover tuition fees. Fulbright scholarships are open to applicants from any academic field. Applicants for Australian Fulbright Scholarships must be U.S. citizens.

Australian-American Health Policy Fellowship

This program offers a unique opportunity for outstanding, mid-career U.S. professionals – academics, government officials, clinical leaders, journalists and decision makers in managed care and other private health care organizations – to spend up to 10 months in Australia conducting research and working with Australian health policy experts on issues relevant to both countries. The Fellowship provides up to $87,000 (AUD) for the maximum term of ten months, with a minimum stay in Australia of six months required. There is also a family supplement available (e.g. approximately $50,000 for a spouse and two children).

OnRamp Fellowship

The Fellowship is a re-entry platform that matches experienced women returning to the workforce after a career break with law firms, legal departments, and financial services firms in the U.S., Australia, and the UK for six to twelve month paid positions. This unique experiential learning program gives returning women – many of whom opted out of the workforce for a period of time to raise children – an opportunity to demonstrate their value in the marketplace while also increasing their experience, skills, and contacts. To facilitate successful Fellowship placements, applicants are rigorously screened and matched with organizations based on cultural fit and the success traits that are essential for advancement.

Rotary Peace Fellowship

Each year, Rotary selects up to 100 individuals from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships at one of Rotary’s peace centers, including the University of Queensland in Australia. Fellows can pursue a 15 to 24 month Master’s degree in fields related to peace and conflict prevention and resolution. These fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, and roundtrip transportation.

AJC’s Goldman Fellowship Program

AJC’s Goldman Fellowship Program is designed to develop young Jewish leaders in the areas of international and domestic politics, diplomacy, public relations, and management. This competitive Fellowship gives undergraduate and graduate students the unique opportunity to work in offices domestically and throughout the world – from New York City to Melbourne, Australia. AJC Goldman Fellows receive $3,000 for the 9-week program plus major travel expenses. A mandatory debriefing session, immediately following the Fellowship, is held during a week-long trip to Germany.

NSF Graduate Research Fellows, Graduate Research Opportunities Worldwide (GROW)

Through GROW, NSF Graduate Research Fellows are provided an opportunity to engage in international collaborations with investigators in partner countries around the world. GROW offers funding for international stays of 2-12 months, with the duration varying by country and partner organization. GROW is offered in Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Norway, the Philippines, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden and Switzerland. GROW is open to active NSF Graduate Research Fellows who have completed at least one year of their graduate program.

East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students (EAPSI)

The National Science Foundation (NSF) East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) Fellowship Program provides U.S. graduate students in science and engineering with an opportunity to spend 8 weeks (10 weeks for Japan) during the summer conducting research at one of the seven host locations in East Asia and Pacific: Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan. EAPSI is open to graduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and are enrolled in a research-oriented Masters or Ph.D. program in science or engineering. NSF provides EAPSI Fellows with a $5,000 stipend and roundtrip airplane ticket to the host location. Our foreign counterparts provide in-country living expenses and accommodations (arrangements vary by host location).

Fulbright Anne Wexler Master’s Award in Public Policy

The Fulbright-Anne Wexler Scholarships enables Australian and U.S. postgraduate students with strong academic credentials and leadership potential to undertake a two-year Master’s degree in Australia or the U.S. focusing in public policy. These may include key areas such as health, sustainability, energy, climate change, regional security, education, political science, history or governmental relations. The award includes tuition, a living stipend and travel. Two Fulbright Anne Wexler Scholarships will be awarded annually: one for an Australian citizen and one for an American (US) citizen.
