1. Emerging Writer Fellowships
The Emerging Writer Fellowships provide 12 months of uninterrupted time and studio space to write and receive feedback from a nationally established author in their respective genre. Fellows attend one community creative writing workshop per semester and attend one Miami Writers Institute workshop in the genre of their manuscript. Individuals interested in applying must not have published a book-length work, must have a book under contract, or be negotiating a contract either in the United States or abroad by the time the fellowship begins. Each fellow will receive a stipend of $41,000.
2. Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Short-Term Program for U.S. Teachers (Fulbright DAST)
The Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Short-Term Program for U.S. Teachers (Fulbright DAST) provides elementary, middle, and high school teachers from the United States to participate in a two to six-week professional development experience abroad. Teachers will have the opportunity to share their educational expertise in this program by serving in their role consulting with and providing support for schools, non-profit organizations, teacher training institutions, and other educational organizations abroad.
3. Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (TGC)
The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (Fulbright TGC) is a year-long professional development opportunity for U.S. elementary, middle, and high school teachers to develop skills for preparing students for a competitive global economy. Fulbright TGC equips teachers to bring an international perspective to their schools through targeted training, experience abroad, and global collaboration. The fellowship includes an online professional development course, a Global Education Symposium held in Washington, DC, and a 2 to 3-week international field experience, working with another country’s education system.
4. Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Research Program for U.S. Teachers (Fulbright DA)
The Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Semester Program for U.S. Teachers (Fulbright DA) provides an opportunity for outstanding elementary, middle, and high school teachers from the United States to take part in a three- to six-month professional development experience abroad. Teachers will pursue individual inquiry projects, take courses for professional development at a host university, and collaborate with colleagues in the United States and internationally on best educational practices.
5. Richard Beeston Bursary Fellowship
The Richard Beeston Bursary fellow provides two £6,000 fellowships annually. One of the fellowships offered is for an aspiring British foreign correspondent to spend 6 weeks abroad, researching and reporting a foreign news story for The Times newspaper. The other fellowship is for a young Israeli, Lebanese or Palestinian journalist to spend six weeks on secondment to The Times in London, England. Applicants must have at least 2 years of journalistic experience, be under the age of 30 and have a professional command of the English language.
6. Fox International Fellowship
The Fox International Fellowship is a graduate student exchange program between Yale University and 21 world-renowned partner universities. Fox International Fellows are selected for their potential to become leaders in fields that are policy significant, historically informed, and socially meaningful. Fox International Fellows undertake independent research for an academic year at one of the Fox exchange partner universities. Fellows are doctoral students, graduating masters students, or graduating seniors. Awards include round-trip travel, accommodations, and a generous living stipend.
7. Institute of Current World Affairs Fellowship
The ICWA fellowship program offers a Fellow the opportunity to carry out a self-designed and independent program abroad for a minimum of two years. Fellowships are aimed at developing knowledge and professional skills, not awarding research or reporting opportunities to those who already have them. The ICWA fellowship expects candidates to have the necessary language skills to allow them to carry out their proposed project. Candidates must be under the age of 36. U.S. citizenship is not a requirement, but candidates must show ties to U.S. society.
8. Knight-Wallace Fellowship
The Knight-Wallace Fellowships offer accomplished journalists an academic year of study at the University of Michigan. Reporters, editors, data experts, designers, and entrepreneurs from the U.S. and abroad expand their knowledge, develop new ideas, pilot special programs, and address challenges facing the journalism industry. Fellows create personalized study plans and participate in twice-weekly seminars. Extensive travel is a core component of the Knight-Wallace experience, with news tours to Brazil and South Korea. Stipends of $75,000 for U.S. fellows (varied for international fellows). The fellowship suggests that international journalists apply early.
9. Fulbright International Education Administrators Program
The International Education Administrators (IEA) seminars help U.S. higher education administrators establish lasting connections within the social, cultural and higher education systems of other countries. Selected administrators have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about the host country’s higher education system and establish networks of U.S. and international colleagues during a two-week fully funded visit abroad. The IEA Seminars are open to experienced international education administrators and senior administrators. The Fulbright IEA program deadlines vary by country.
10. ASF Fellowships for Americans in the Nordic Countries
The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers year-long fellowships of up to $23,000 and short-term (1-3 months) fellowships of up to $5,000. The fellowship is offered to graduate students conducting dissertation research and academic professionals interested in pursuing research or creative-arts projects in the Nordic region (Denmark, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sámpi, and Sweden). ASF’s award program for study and research abroad has been the Foundation’s most long-standing commitment to educational exchange and travel. Fellowship awards are made in all fields of study.
